The following letter was printed in the Rio Linda/Elverta News on January 17, 2002:

Editor, Rio Linda/Elverta News:

I don't want FPL to have the responsibility for running a power plant anywhere near me. Especially a power plant like that proposed for our community, one that could kill me if it is not responsibly operated. Operators of such a power plant must pay full and complete attention to even the smallest details. To assure safety and control pollution, they can't make mistakes, regardless of how small. FPL's incompetence can kill us. FPL is incompetent.

FPL's "Project Director" has responded, for FPL, to two of my requests for information. His first response, in August, wasn't even dated, and was delivered to me, incomplete, by courier. I received an emailed second response from him, for FPL, on January 2nd that continues with his inattention to detail. The FPL letterhead has the wrong telephone number, and the emailed letter file is set up to change the date on the letter to the date you read it! The first letter didn't have a date, and the second one has a date that changes. FPL is incompetent.

FPL's Project Director has confirmed that FPL's attorney was wrong in telling the community that I had approved an Environmental Impact Document; he now admits it doesn't exist. He confirmed that their first two estimates of sludge to be trucked away each day, one ton and two tons, are wrong; today's number is over six tons. He admits FPL was wrong in telling the community about another EIR that was never prepared. He admits to a "typographical" error in FPL's flawed reference to Government cleanup information at McClellan, and they now "apologize" for singling me out at a community meeting where their facts were incorrect. FPL now admits that the trees they will plant won't hide the smokestacks for at least twenty years, and even that is questionable. FPL cannot be believed. FPL is incompetent.

Don't just take my word for it! Please visit http://obri.net/fpl and read the documentation for yourself. Read FPL's side and read my side. Do you want them here? I certainly don't.

Jay O'Brien
