FPL Statement to Recreation and Parks District

[Emphasis added to key statement below. Note this is AFTER several unsuccessful attempts by FPL Liason Committee (FPLLC) to meet with FPL. FPL refused to meet with FPLLC; FPL's refusals helped facilitate the decision for FPLLC to become STOP (Stop The Oppressive Powerplant) .]
(Speaking about FPL)
...and there are 25 high paid jobs, but 25's not huge, they would like to come in and claim that they're being a partner in this community.
So we've talked about community benefit package for some time and the FPL liaison committee formed and said "we want to be the entity to negotiate that. We want to bring all the diverse community groups into one place to negotiate that and please don't go talk to the individual groups."
And so we sat back and waited for that process to happen. And we're waiting to begin those conversations with that group.
And now, as you heard, it's the opposition committee, and we don't feel it's appropriate to be discussing community benefits with (unintelligible).
And so we would still would like to work with them on a great deal of issues, (unintelligible). It's a different discussion now..."
