Mark,

Please review the unsigned response I received from Mr. Stosich, included with this email.  I note that he did not send you a copy of his response to my email letter.

This situation doesn't sound at all like what we heard from you County folks at the town meeting last week. You folks were reaching out for community involvement and discussing problem resolution possibilities, not deciding for us what is best for us. It was a really nice breath of fresh air and very much appreciated.

I am not opposed to speed control means; I just find it hard to believe that a stop sign at an intersection that doesn't have a history of safety problems that is out of sight from the petitioners area will have an effect.  And, the person who prepared the petition said he agrees with me. However, I'm open to hearing all sides, but BEFORE I cast a vote, not after.

Shouldn't there be some kind of public outreach before the arbitrary installation of stop signs by a vote of people not informed of the specific problem being addressed before they vote?

If the speed laws are being violated, shouldn't there be some effort put forth to enforce the law before adding to someone's discomfort to solve someone else's problem?

Can you arrange a public meeting where the problems can be discussed by all who are involved, including a report on the enforcement effortsthat must have failed before stop signs would be considered as a spehttp://www.sacbee.com/content/community_news/natomas/story/10587593p-11506357c.htmled control measure? Of course the meeting should have been called before the vote, not after the vote. Asking someone to vote causes them to take a position they may now wish to defend, rather than approach the issue with an open mind.

I am most irritated by the process and the apparent attitude of the County. I haven't seen the petition, but as I understand what it said, the petitioners really want speed bumps in their part of the road. Instead, the County proposes a stop sign in my part of the road.

And I can't even get the mailing list the County used to request the vote.

Maybe the speed bumps would satisfy Joe Leonhart?

1. I'll let you know the results of the survey after September 17th when all the vote cards are due ( see the note at the bottom of your card).

2. The "mailing list" is supplied by a service that gathers such information from the County Recorders office and tax rolls. If the "mailing address" doesn't match the "site address", then a "Resident/occupant" letter is sent to the property owner and the suspected tenant. Since your address was a post office box, we had no way of knowing if you were a landlord or the resident of the address. We ask for a name and address to verify these conditions. All property owners and "residents" that have frontage along Second Street between M St and Q St were given letters and survey cards.

Jay,
I'm working on this with Transportation.  Yes, I will set up a community meeting. Lupe Rodriguez who is managing the Neighborhood Traffic Management program is the person I'm  working with on these kind of things. He suggested that because the survey already went out that we have the meeting immediately after we get the results back. Also, this will be the topic at the North Area Open House on October 6, 2004 from 6-8:00 at 6040 Watt Ave. See you tonight at the Rio Linda Chamber meeting.
